Zoom Instamic Pro Plus C Stereo

Q: What makes the Stereo version different from the Mono model?

The Stereo version adds two side-firing microphones to its main array, enabling true stereo and Mid-Side recording modes. This allows it to capture width and spatial detail rather than just centred dialogue. It is better suited to ambience, interviews with movement, or situations where space and direction matter.

Q: How does Mid-Side recording help in post-production?

Mid-Side recording captures a central signal and a separate side signal. In post, you can adjust stereo width without affecting the centre, or collapse the recording cleanly to mono. This provides flexibility when the final delivery format isn’t fully decided on location.

Q: Can I still use it as a simple lav mic for speech?

Yes. The Instamic Pro Plus C Stereo can record in mono or dual-mono modes when stereo capture isn’t needed. This makes it suitable for straightforward dialogue recording, while also allowing for the option to switch to stereo when required.

Q: How reliable is the internal sync for video work?

The internal clock runs at 2.5 ppm and supports timecode workflows with Atomos and Tentacle Sync systems. This ensures that long recordings are accurately aligned with camera footage. It is well-suited to single- or multi-camera shoots without a direct audio connection.

Q: Is it practical for outdoor or unpredictable conditions?

Yes. The IP67 rating means it can withstand dust and temporary water immersion up to one metre for 30 minutes. Combined with its small size and clip-style mounting, it works well for documentary, travel or run-and-gun recording where conditions change quickly.
