Question 1

How does the internal zoom design affect handling?

Accepted Answer

When you rotate the zoom ring, the optical groups move internally instead of extending the barrel outward. This keeps the lens length and centre of gravity consistent throughout the zoom range, so the camera doesn’t shift forward in your hands. On a gimbal, it removes the need to rebalance after changing focal lengths, while handheld shooting feels steadier over longer sessions.

Question 2

Is the constant f2.8 aperture useful for video work?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The aperture remains physically fixed at f2.8 as you zoom from 24mm to 50mm, so exposure stays consistent throughout the shot. Keeping exposure consistent avoids visible brightness shifts during zooms and maintains the same depth of field across the range. In low light, the wider aperture also allows more light to reach the sensor without immediately increasing ISO.

Question 3

What kind of image quality does the optical design produce?

Accepted Answer

The lens uses aspherical and high-refractive-index elements, together with multi-layer nano-coatings. These elements control distortion and aberrations as light passes through the lens, helping maintain sharpness from the centre toward the corners of the frame. The nano-coatings reduce internal reflections, which lowers flare and ghosting when shooting into strong light sources.

Question 4

How does the autofocus system perform for hybrid shooting?

Accepted Answer

The autofocus system operates with fast, quiet movements, making it suitable for both stills and video recording. During continuous autofocus, the lens can track moving subjects without abrupt focus noise entering recorded audio. The dedicated AF/MF switch also allows immediate manual override, which is useful for making fine adjustments during filming or precise still-life work.

Question 5

Is the Voyager practical for travel and handheld shooting?

Accepted Answer

At around 432g, the Voyager stays relatively light for a constant f2.8 standard zoom. The compact internal zoom construction keeps the lens physically short while shooting, so it feels balanced on smaller full-frame bodies and gimbals. Over longer days, that lower weight reduces wrist and shoulder strain, especially when carrying the camera continuously or working handheld for extended periods.
