Tamron 12-20mm f2.8 Lens for Nikon Z

Q: Can I use filters with the Tamron 12-20mm f2.8 Lens?

Yes. Rather than using a conventional front filter thread, the Tamron 12-20mm f2.8 Lens features an integrated rear filter holder that accepts compatible rear-mounted filters. This allows filters to be used without affecting the lens's integrated hood or extreme 12mm optical design.

Q: Can I remove the integrated lens hood?

No. The flower-shaped lens hood is permanently integrated into the lens. This forms part of the overall optical and mechanical design, helping to reduce stray light and protect the front element without increasing the size. A dedicated locking front lens cap is supplied to fit the integrated hood.

Q: Does the minimum focusing distance change throughout the zoom range?

Yes. The minimum focusing distance changes from 0.18m at the 12mm wide end to 0.28m at 20mm. Maximum magnification also changes from 1:5.8 at 12mm to 1:9.1 at 20mm, allowing the lens to achieve its strongest close-up performance at the widest focal length. This makes it easier to place foreground subjects prominently within the frame while retaining the expansive perspective of the surrounding scene.

Q: Is the Tamron 12-20mm f2.8 Lens compatible with Tamron Lens Utility?

Yes. The lens is compatible with Tamron Lens Utility, allowing supported lens functions to be customised and firmware to be updated using Tamron's software. Function availability depends on the camera mount and the features supported by the lens.
