Question 1

How much longer does the NP-SA100 last compared to the NP-FZ100?

Accepted Answer

The NP-SA100 increases capacity from 2280mAh to 2670mAh, which translates to an approximate 17% gain. In practice, the camera draws power for longer before the voltage drops to the cutoff point. The exact difference depends on how the camera is being used, but it reduces how often you need to stop and change batteries, especially during video or continuous shooting.

Question 2

Does the higher capacity affect camera performance?

Accepted Answer

Yes, in a practical sense. As newer cameras pull more current for features like AI processing and high-resolution recording, smaller batteries can dip in voltage under load. The NP-SA100 maintains a steadier output, so the camera is less likely to reduce performance or shut down unexpectedly during intensive use.

Question 3

How does the battery health check work?

Accepted Answer

Compatible Sony cameras and chargers read the internal battery condition and report it as Good, Slightly deteriorated, or Deteriorated. As lithium cells age, their ability to hold a charge drops. This check gives a clear indication of when the capacity has reduced enough to risk shorter runtimes or sudden drop-offs, so you can replace the battery before it becomes unreliable.

Question 4

Is the NP-SA100 physically different from the NP-FZ100?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The dimensions shift slightly to accommodate the larger internal cell structure, and the weight increases from around 83g to 89g. In hand, the difference is minimal, but internally it allows for the higher energy density needed to support power-hungry cameras.

Question 5

How long does the battery take to charge with the Sony BC-SAD1 Battery Charger?

Accepted Answer

Using Sony’s BC-SAD1 Battery Charger, a single NP-SA100 battery takes approximately 85 minutes to fully charge. If you only need a working level, it reaches around 80% in about 55 minutes, which is often enough to get back to shooting quickly. Charging two batteries at once takes roughly 115 minutes, as the charger splits power between both cells.
