Q: What is the benefit of 32-bit float audio recording?

32-bit float recording captures an extremely wide dynamic range, making it suitable for recording unpredictable sound levels. If someone suddenly speaks much louder than expected or quiet dialogue needs boosting in post-production, the recording retains far more usable information than conventional formats. It reduces the risk of clipped audio and gives greater flexibility during editing.

Q: How does the XLR-H2 improve handheld shooting?

The handle improves the camera’s centre of gravity and provides a more secure grip, making handheld movement feel steadier and reducing the effort needed to support the camera over long periods. For documentary, event and solo productions, it helps minimise operator fatigue while maintaining stable footage.

Q: Can the XLR-H2 record multiple microphones at once?

Yes. The FX5 XLR handle supports four-channel audio recording, allowing multiple microphones to be recorded simultaneously. This is useful when capturing dialogue, ambient sound and backup microphones during the same take, giving greater flexibility when mixing audio in post-production.

Q: Who is the Sony XLR-H2 intended for?

The XLR-H2 is aimed at professional videographers, documentary filmmakers, broadcasters and content creators who require high-quality in-camera audio without carrying a separate recorder. It is particularly well suited to single operators and small crews where mobility, fast setup and reliable sound capture are equally important.
