Question 1

How compact is the Sony FX5?

Accepted Answer

The Sony FX5 measures approximately 132.2 x 79.0 x 87.0mm and weighs approximately 734g with a battery and memory card installed, or 643g for the body only. Its compact dimensions make it easier to operate handheld, mount on gimbals or drones, and rig in confined spaces where larger cinema cameras may be less practical.

Question 2

Does the Sony FX5 support anamorphic recording?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The FX5 supports 5K Open Gate recording, allowing the full image sensor area to be captured when using compatible anamorphic lenses. Expanded anamorphic de-squeeze support allows compatible de-squeeze ratios to be applied during in-camera monitoring, making it easier to compose and evaluate footage while recording.

Question 3

How long does the Sony FX5 battery last?

Accepted Answer

The FX5 uses Sony’s NP-SA100 rechargeable battery. The battery lasts approximately 105 minutes of actual movie recording or 170 minutes of continuous recording with the LCD monitor, depending on settings and operating conditions.

Question 4

Can the FX5 be integrated into professional multi-camera productions?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The FX5 supports dedicated Timecode input and output via an optional cable for synchronising multiple cameras and external audio recorders, while 2.5G Ethernet, Wi-Fi with 6GHz support and Bluetooth 5.3 provide flexible networking options for studio and location productions. HDMI RAW output, FTP transfer and USB tethering further expand integration with multi-camera setups.

Question 5

What accessories are compatible with the Sony FX5?

Accepted Answer

The FX5 supports a wide range of compatible accessories through its built-in connections. The Multi Interface Shoe accepts compatible Sony digital microphones, wireless microphone receivers, and other supported accessories, while the HDMI Type A port allows connection to external monitors and recorders. Dual USB-C ports support data transfer, external power and compatible accessories, with 3.5mm microphone and headphone sockets providing additional audio connectivity. The camera is also compatible with Sony E-mount lenses, CFexpress Type A and SD memory cards, and wired or wireless network accessories.

Question 6

Accepted Answer

Yes. The FX5 supports live streaming at up to 4K 60p resolution using MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 or MPEG-H HEVC/H.265 video formats. RTMP, RTMPS, and SRT protocols are supported, while integrated 2.5G Ethernet, dual USB-C ports, and Wi-Fi with 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz band support provide flexible wired and wireless network connectivity.
