Question 1

What storage options does the Sony FX2 Camera support?

Accepted Answer

The FX2 features dual card slots that accept both CFexpress Type A and SD UHS-II cards, providing options based on your speed and capacity needs. CFexpress Type A is ideal for high-bitrate formats, while SD cards are well-suited for proxies or lighter codecs. The camera also supports relay recording, simultaneous recording, and auto switch-over, allowing uninterrupted capture across different media types.

Question 2

Can the Sony FX2 Full-Frame Cinema Line Camera record RAW video externally?

Accepted Answer

The FX2 outputs 16-bit linear RAW over HDMI, which is compatible with a range of external recorders such as the Atomos Ninja V and Ninja V+. These recorders convert the signal into ProRes RAW, enabling flexible post-production. RAW output is full-frame and pairs seamlessly with the FX2’s Cine EI exposure tools for consistent, colour-managed results.

Question 3

What are the audio input options on the FX2?

Accepted Answer

The FX2 includes a 3.5mm stereo input for onboard microphones and supports four-channel 24-bit LPCM recording when paired with the optional XLR Handle. This handle adds two XLR/TRS combo inputs and one additional 3.5mm stereo input, each with individual level control and phantom power. It connects via the Multi Interface Shoe and transmits digital audio directly to the camera. This setup is ideal for interviews, documentary shoots, and live sound capture.

Question 4

Does the Sony FX2 Camera offer timecode or multicam sync support?

Accepted Answer

The FX2 supports timecode sync via its Multi-Terminal interface. Using a compatible adapter or cable, you can feed in timecode from a generator or sync device such as the UltraSync BLUE. This feature makes the FX2 suitable for multi-camera productions where accurate syncing is essential.

Question 5

Can the Sony FX2 be used for livestreaming?

Accepted Answer

While the FX2 primarily focuses on cinematic video capture, it also supports livestreaming via its USB-C connection using the UVC (USB Video Class) standard. This feature enables it to function as a high-quality webcam when connected to a computer, eliminating the need for additional capture devices. It can deliver a clear video feed suitable for professional streaming setups, ideal for interviews, broadcasts, and remote productions.
