Sony ECM-W5T Wireless Microphone System Transmitter

Q: How compact is the ECM-W5T?

The transmitter measures approximately 31 x 47 x 22.3mm and weighs just 27.1g. Its compact size makes it easy to position on clothing without adding much weight, especially for interviews or presentations.

Q: Can the Sony ECM-W5T record audio without a receiver?

Yes. The ECM-W5T records internally with up to 64GB of storage, providing a backup of captured audio without relying solely on wireless transmission to a receiver. You can use this separate recording if the wireless signal drops out or is interrupted during a shoot.

Q: Can I connect a lavalier microphone to the ECM-W5T?

Yes. The transmitter includes a 3.5mm monaural microphone input for compatible external microphones, including the Sony ECM-L1. You can wear a lavalier microphone discreetly on clothing while keeping the transmitter separate.

Q: Can I use multiple ECM-W5T transmitters together?

Yes. The ECM-W5T supports compatible multi-transmitter systems that can record up to four audio channels, making it useful for interviews, panel discussions and productions involving several speakers. Each channel requires its own transmitter.

Q: What are the benefits of 32-bit float recording on the Sony ECM-W5T?

32-bit float recording captures a wide dynamic range, giving you more flexibility when adjusting audio levels in post-production. During interviews or live recordings where voices can suddenly get louder or quieter, you will have more room to adjust levels when editing without losing detail.
