Question 1

Does the Sigma FP2 have a mechanical shutter?

Accepted Answer

No. The FP2 uses a fully electronic shutter, which operates without mechanical movement or shutter vibration. This makes the camera silent when photographing subjects in quiet locations and supports continuous shooting at up to 20fps. Fast-moving subjects can still exhibit rolling shutter distortion, although the partially stacked sensor reduces this effect through faster readout. Flash synchronisation is limited to 1/50 second in full-frame mode or 1/60 second in crop mode.

Question 2

Can the Sigma FP2 record 6K video internally?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The FP2 supports 6K recording in a full-frame 3:2 Open Gate format, with the available recording destination depending on the selected codec and recording settings. Supported 6K formats reach 60fps, while ProRes RAW and ProRes RAW HQ are limited to 6K 30fps and require compatible external USB storage. Open Gate captures additional image area above and below a conventional widescreen composition, giving editors room to extract different aspect ratios. Electronic image stabilisation cannot operate during 6K recording.

Question 3

Does ProRes RAW recording require an external SSD?

Accepted Answer

Yes. ProRes RAW and ProRes RAW HQ can only be selected when the FP2's recording destination is set to compatible USB storage. These formats retain RAW image information for colour grading and exposure adjustments during post-production, with ProRes RAW offering a smaller data rate than ProRes RAW HQ. The camera also supports H.264, H.265 and L-Log recording, providing alternatives for productions that don't require RAW files. Available resolutions and frame rates vary by recording format.

Question 4

Does the Sigma FP2 have image stabilisation?

Accepted Answer

The FP2 supports electronic image stabilisation for video recording, which compensates for camera movement by adjusting the recorded image area. This reduces visible shake in compatible handheld recording modes, but electronic stabilisation cannot operate with 6K recording. The camera does not incorporate a sensor-shift image stabilisation mechanism for still photography. Compatible lenses with optical stabilisation can provide correction through their own stabilisation systems.

Question 5

Can I use the Sigma FP2 without an SD card?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The camera includes approximately 70GB of internal storage, so photographs and supported video formats can be recorded without inserting a separate memory card. It also accepts UHS-I and UHS-II SDXC cards and supports compatible external USB storage devices. When Storage Full Action is enabled, the recording destination can switch to internal memory if the selected SD card or USB storage becomes full during still photography. Recording capacity depends on file format, resolution and compression, and ProRes RAW recording specifically requires compatible USB storage.

Question 6

What lenses can I use with the Sigma FP2?

Accepted Answer

The FP2 uses the L-Mount system and accepts compatible L-Mount interchangeable lenses, including full-frame and APS-C designs. Full-frame lenses cover the entire sensor, while APS-C lenses can be used in DC Crop mode, which records a smaller area. Some lenses may require firmware updates for compatibility with particular camera functions.

Question 7

How does the included EVF-21 electronic viewfinder work?

Accepted Answer

The EVF-21 connects directly to the Sigma FP2 through USB-C and displays the camera's live image on its 5.76-million-dot OLED panel. Its eye sensor detects when you bring the camera towards your face, switching the viewing display between the EVF and rear LCD when the appropriate display setting is selected. The eyepiece also tilts upwards through 90°, so you can look down into it when photographing from waist height or a low camera position. Dioptre adjustment and the supplied standard and large eyecups provide additional ways to adjust the viewing arrangement.
