Question 1

Is this lens suitable for astrophotography?

Accepted Answer

The optical design of this lens places clear emphasis on suppressing sagittal coma flare at wide apertures. At f1.4, point light sources retain more consistent shape toward the edges of the frame, which is particularly relevant for night skies. The wide 15mm focal length on APS-C also allows more sky coverage without needing to stitch multiple frames.

Question 2

Can this lens be used for vlogging?

Accepted Answer

The 15mm focal length provides a wide field of view on APS-C bodies, which allows comfortable framing at arm’s length. The stepping motor delivers quiet autofocus operation, and focus breathing has been minimised to reduce visible framing shifts during refocusing. The low weight also makes the lens easier to balance on compact gimbals.

Question 3

Can I use filters on the Sigma 15mm f1.4 DC Contemporary Lens?

Accepted Answer

The Sigma 15mm f1.4 DC Contemporary lens features a 58mm front filter thread, allowing the use of standard screw-in filters, such as neutral density, circular polarising, and protective filters, without the need for adapters. Because focusing is internal, the front element does not rotate during operation, which makes it easier to use polarising or graduated ND filters without needing to readjust them after refocusing.

Question 4

How does the 15mm fit within Sigma’s f1.4 DC series?

Accepted Answer

The 15mm lens sits toward the wide end of Sigma’s APS-C f1.4 DC Contemporary series. The range begins at 12mm for ultra-wide coverage, moves through 15mm for general wide-angle work, then continues with 23mm and 30mm for more natural perspectives, and 56mm for short telephoto reach.

Across the series, the lenses share a similar design philosophy: wide f1.4 apertures combined with compact mechanical construction suited to APS-C mirrorless systems. This allows photographers to build a consistent prime set from ultra-wide to mid-telephoto without introducing significant size or weight changes between focal lengths.
