Question 1

What kind of light does the Profoto Softbox 5' Octa create?

Accepted Answer

The Profoto Softbox 5' Octa creates a broad, soft light with a natural-looking spread. Its octagonal shape wraps light around faces more evenly than a narrow modifier, while the rounder front produces catchlights that look closer to a circular source in the eyes. The recessed diffuser sits back from the front edge, so the light spreads across the fabric before leaving the softbox. This gives a smoother wash of light for portraits, beauty, fashion and interview work.

Question 2

Why use an Octa shape for certain lighting scenarios?

Accepted Answer

An Octa gives a more circular reflection in the eyes, which often feels natural in portrait and beauty work. Because the shape is even on all sides, the edge of the light behaves consistently rather than looking stronger from one direction. When you place it close to a subject, the large front area softens skin texture by spreading the light across a wider surface. That makes it a practical modifier when the face, hair, and clothing all need to be lit by the same light source.

Question 3

How easy is the Softbox 5' Octa to set up?

Accepted Answer

The Softbox 5' Octa uses an all-in-one mount with an integrated speedring, so you do not have to build the softbox around a separate ring before mounting it. You unfold it, lock the structure into shape, then attach it to the light using Profoto’s clamp mount. That saves time when moving between setups or building a larger lighting arrangement.

Question 4

Can I change the softness of the light?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The softbox uses a removable, interchangeable diffuser, so you can adjust how much the fabric spreads and reduce the light before it reaches the subject. Removing or changing diffusion lets more direct light through, while stronger diffusion spreads the light more before it leaves the front. This changes both softness and intensity, because the diffuser alters how much light passes through and how widely it scatters.
