Question 1

What kind of light does the Profoto MaxiZoom Reflector create?

Accepted Answer

The MaxiZoom Reflector creates a punchy light with a stronger centre than an open flash head. Its faceted, high-gloss interior catches light from the flat-front flash or LED and redirects it forwards, so more output lands in the working beam rather than spilling sideways. The fall-off remains smooth, meaning the edge of the beam does not cut away too abruptly. This makes it useful when you want reach and shape without the hard look of a very narrow spotlight.

Question 2

How does the 2-stop output boost work in practice?

Accepted Answer

When the reflector is in the spot position, it concentrates the light into a 25° beam. Because the same flash output is gathered into a narrower spread, the light intensity increases by up to 2 stops, equal to 4x more light. That extra intensity means you can reach the same exposure with less flash output than an unmodified flat-front head would need. It is especially useful when the light has to travel further before it reaches the subject.

Question 3

How do I change the beam angle of the reflector?

Accepted Answer

The MaxiZoom Reflector uses Profoto’s Zoom mount, so you change the beam by sliding the reflector back and forth on the head. Moving the reflector changes where the light source sits inside the reflector, which alters how the interior surfaces catch and throw the light. In a tighter position, the beam narrows and gains more throw. In a wider position, the spread opens up, covering more of the scene.

Question 4

Which Profoto lights are recommended for the MaxiZoom Reflector?

Accepted Answer

Profoto recommends flat-front flashes and point-source LEDs for use with the MaxiZoom. Those light sources sit neatly behind the reflector, and its profile then shapes their output into a more directional beam. It is not simply adding a front accessory; it is changing how the light leaves the head. That is why the effect is most noticeable when you need more reach or a more defined pool of light.

Question 5

Is the MaxiZoom Reflector practical for location work?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The reflector is compact and lightweight, making it easier to pack and handle when moving between setups. It also comes with a padded protective case that keeps the reflective interior protected from knocks and surface marks during transport. The case includes a clip that attaches to a backpack, so the reflector can travel with the rest of the kit. This keeps it protected without needing a larger lighting case.
