Question 1

What is the minimum focus distance of the Nikon Z 35mm f1.2 S Lens?

Accepted Answer

The Nikon Z 35mm f1.2 S has a minimum focus distance of 0.3m, allowing you to get relatively close to your subject while maintaining sharpness. Its 0.2x maximum reproduction ratio ensures fine details are well-rendered, making it suitable for capturing textures, small objects, and close-up compositions without significant distortion.

Question 2

What filters can be used with this lens?

Accepted Answer

The Nikon Z 35mm f1.2 S has an 82mm front filter thread, which allows it to be used with a wide range of standard circular filters, including ND, polarising, and UV filters. Find our selection of 82mm filters here.

Question 3

How compact is the Nikon Z 35mm f1.2 S Lens?

Accepted Answer

The Nikon Z 35mm f1.2 S Lens weighs 1060g and measures 90mm x 150mm, making it one of the larger Nikon Z primes. While it has a solid, well-balanced build, extended handheld use may feel more comfortable with a camera body with a substantial grip. Its weight reflects the high-quality 17-element optical construction and wide f1.2 aperture, ensuring high quality and durability.

Question 4

Can I use the Nikon Z 35mm f1.2 S Lens on an APS-C camera?

Accepted Answer

When paired with an APS-C camera, the Nikon Z 35mm f1.2 S provides a 44° angle of view, equivalent to a 52mm field of view on a full-frame camera. This gives a more standard perspective, making it better suited for portraits and everyday shooting rather than wide-angle compositions.

Question 5

What other focal length options are available in the Nikon f1.2 S line of lenses?

Accepted Answer

Nikon has previously released two other iterations of lenses with an f1.2 aperture and fixed focal length in the Nikon S line. The 35mm joins the Nikon Z 50mm f1.2 and the Nikon Z 85mm f1.2 as a third option in the line-up of portrait and fashion lenses with this wide aperture. The 50mm lens excels in portraiture and includes an integrated OLED screen, which displays accurate measurements for aperture, focal distance, ISO and depth of field. The 80mm offers impressive cinematic contrast and colour in a mid-telephoto prime lens.
