Nikon Z 24-105mm f4-7.1 Lens

Q: Is the Nikon Z 24-105mm f4-7.1 suitable for close-up photography?

The lens focuses as close as 0.2m at 24mm and reaches up to 0.5x magnification between 70-105mm. This close-focusing architecture allows detailed framing of small subjects without additional accessories. It is beneficial for lifestyle details, food, or travel close-ups.

Q: Can this lens be used on DX-format Nikon Z cameras?

Yes. While designed for FX format, it is fully compatible with DX Nikon Z bodies. On DX cameras, the field of view becomes narrower, effectively shifting the usable range toward short-telephoto coverage. This makes it suitable for portraits and detail work on APS-C bodies.

Q: Does the Nikon Z 24-105mm f4-7.1 use an STM autofocus motor?

Yes. The lens uses an STM stepping motor to drive autofocus, delivering smooth, precise focus movements with reduced mechanical noise. This benefits video recording by minimising audible focus noise and visible focus stepping. It also supports reliable subject acquisition for stills, particularly when shooting in quieter environments.

Q: Does the lens support filters and accessories?

The lens features a 67mm front filter thread, supporting common screw-in filters. Optional accessories include the HB-93B lens hood and CL-C1 case. Using standard filter sizes simplifies sharing accessories across other compact Nikon Z lenses.

Q: Where does this lens sit within the Nikon Z lineup?

The 24-105mm f4-7.1 serves as an entry-level full-frame zoom, offering broader reach than basic kit lenses. Its design prioritises portability and flexibility over constant-aperture performance. This positioning makes it a practical starting point for photographers entering the FX Z system.
