Hasselblad 35-100mm f2.8-4 E XCD Lens

Q: What is the maximum aperture at the telephoto end?

The aperture varies across the zoom range. At 35mm, the maximum aperture is f2.8, providing strong low-light performance and shallow depth of field. As users zoom towards 100mm, the maximum aperture narrows to f4.

Q: Is the 35-100mm f2.8-4 E XCD lens compatible with filters?

Yes, the lens accepts standard 86 mm screw-in filters. The larger diameter supports the use of accessories such as neutral density and polarising filters without the need for step-up rings. This compatibility ensures that photographers working in both natural light and controlled lighting setups can manage reflections, contrast and exposure directly through the front thread.

Q: Does close focusing reduce exposure on the 35-100mm f2.8-4 E XCD lens?

No, the Hasselblad 35-100mm f2.8-4 E XCD Lens maintains consistent exposure values across its entire focusing range. Some lenses lose light when focusing at very close distances, meaning the effective aperture becomes smaller than indicated, and exposures need compensation. At its 0.4 m minimum focus distance, this lens achieves a 1:8 reproduction ratio without any exposure loss, ensuring metering remains accurate and predictable when working close to a subject.

Q: What does the "E" in the Hasselblad E-Series mean?

The "E" in Hasselblad’s XCD E Series stands for Exclusive. It designates lenses built to Hasselblad’s highest optical standards, engineered for exceptional sharpness, colour fidelity and frame-wide consistency. The 35-100mm f2.8-4 E XCD Lens carries this designation, aligning it with Hasselblad’s flagship-level optical architecture and performance benchmarks.
