Question 1

How much weight can the DJI RS 5 support?

Accepted Answer

The RS 5 supports camera and lens combinations up to 3kg. This maximum load comfortably covers most full-frame mirrorless bodies paired with standard f2.8 zooms or compact cine primes. Proper balancing is still essential for achieving optimal stabilisation and battery performance.

Question 2

Does the RS 5 require rebalancing when switching to vertical shooting?

Accepted Answer

No. The native vertical shooting design allows you to rotate the mounting plate and lock it back in place without rebalancing the tilt or pan axes. This makes switching between social media-focused or portrait formats quick and predictable on set.

Question 3

Is subject tracking built into the gimbal?

Accepted Answer

Tracking requires the RS Enhanced Intelligent Tracking Module. Once attached, tracking is controlled directly from the gimbal’s touchscreen and works for single people, vehicles, or pets under suitable conditions. This accessory is included in this combo.

Question 4

How lightweight is the RS 5?

Accepted Answer

The RS 5 weighs 1.193kg, including the Upper and Lower Quick-Release Plates and screws. When you’re ready to film, it weighs just 1.46kg with the Battery Grip and quick-release plates. The weight makes it comfortable to handle when moving between shots, working handheld for extended periods, or packing the gimbal into a smaller kit bag without stripping it down.

Question 5

What is the difference between the previous-generation RS 4 and the RS 5?

Accepted Answer

The RS 5 builds on the RS 4 with several measurable upgrades. Peak motor torque increases by around 50%, giving the RS 5 more headroom with heavier mirrorless zooms and better stability during faster movement. Charging is also quicker, with a full charge achievable in around 1 hour, roughly 60% faster than RS 4, and battery standby time increases by about 15%. The RS 5 also adds hardware refinements such as a Z-axis indicator and updated automated axis locks, while retaining the same 3kg payload.
