Question 1

What does the DJI OM Multifunctional Module 2 do?

Accepted Answer

The DJI OM Multifunctional Module 2 provides a separate smart tracking system and a built-in fill light for the DJI Osmo Mobile 8P gimbal. Once attached, it can follow people, cats, dogs, vehicles and selected objects by feeding subject information to the gimbal, which then turns to keep the subject in frame. It can also send its live view to the Osmo FrameTap device, so you can see what the module is tracking and tap a detection box directly from the remote screen. This feature is especially useful when the phone is on the gimbal tripod and you are filming yourself from in front of the camera.

Question 2

How is the module different from tracking in the DJI Mimo app?

Accepted Answer

The DJI Mimo app uses ActiveTrack 8.0, while the DJI OM Multifunctional Module 2 provides smart tracking for the gimbal through the module itself. That means the module can support tracking when you are using native camera apps, livestreaming apps, video calls and supported third-party camera apps.

Question 3

How does the fill light work?

Accepted Answer

The built-in fill light gives eight brightness levels and eight colour-temperature settings. Its 2500-6500 K range lets you move from a warmer look to a cooler, daylight-style setting, depending on the room lighting or the look you want on skin. Maximum output is rated at 40 lux at 0.6 m, so it is mainly for close-up recording, livestreaming, and video calls rather than for lighting a wider scene. When used with the Osmo FrameTap, you can adjust the fill light from the remote instead of reaching for the phone or module.

Question 4

Can it track with both front and rear cameras?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The module can be removed, flipped and reattached so it faces the direction you need. When it faces you, it can support self-recording using either the front or rear camera, depending on your setup. When flipped the other way, it can follow subjects in front of the phone, such as a person, pet, vehicle or selected object. This physical flip is what changes the module’s tracking direction.
