Question 1

What are the main differences between the Deity PR-2ii and the original PR-2?

Accepted Answer

The PR-2ii introduces a revised dual-ADC preamp with lower self-noise and greater dynamic range, capturing quieter dialogue with less hiss while retaining 32-bit float recording. It also adds IP54 dust and splash resistance, a tougher screen, an integrated belt clip and improved recording protection to reduce the risk of losing audio if a file is interrupted. Storage capacity increases from 128GB to 1TB, while a brighter 600-nit colour display makes settings easier to check outdoors.

Question 2

What is the advantage of 32-bit float recording?

Accepted Answer

32-bit float recording captures a wide range of audio levels, reducing the risk of losing detail when someone suddenly speaks louder or quieter. This is particularly useful for interviews and documentary work where dialogue levels can change unexpectedly.

Question 3

Can the PR-2ii synchronise audio with video?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The recorder supports both wired and wireless timecode, allowing you to synchronise recorded audio with camera footage during editing. This is particularly useful when recording sound separately from the camera.

Question 4

Can I monitor audio directly from the recorder?

Accepted Answer

The PR-2ii includes built-in headphone monitoring, so you can listen to the microphone signal and check for unwanted noise before or during recording. Its 600-nit colour display also makes recording information easier to read outdoors.

Question 5

Is the Deity PR-2ii weather-resistant?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The recorder has an IP54 rating, providing protection against dust and water splashes. It also features improved drop resistance and a redesigned battery door, but it is not waterproof or intended for submersion.

Question 6

What comes with the Deity PR-2ii?

Accepted Answer

The PR-2ii comes with an Avora lavalier microphone, foam windscreen, lavalier mounting clip and two AA batteries. The recorder also has an integrated belt clip, so you can attach it directly to clothing right out of the box.
