Question 1

How does the Canon EOS R50 V differ from the Canon EOS R50 Camera?

Accepted Answer

The Canon EOS R50 V introduces video-first features, such as a dedicated REC button on the front, a video-optimised mode dial, and support for power zoom lenses. It also includes advanced tools like false colour, a tally lamp, and a vertical live-view information display styled for content creators and streamers.

Question 2

What kind of memory cards are compatible with the Canon EOS R50 V?

Accepted Answer

The Canon EOS R50 V uses SD, SDHC, and SDXC cards, with additional support for high-speed UHS-II formats. Canon recommends a UHS-II card for high-bitrate 4K recording and longer continuous takes. Lower-grade cards may restrict some recording modes or slow down file transfers. Always format cards in-camera for best performance and compatibility.

Question 3

How customisable is the autofocus system on the Canon EOS R50 V?

Accepted Answer

Depending on the mode, the Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system supports up to 527 zones in video and 3713 AF positions. It includes tracking for humans, animals, and vehicles, with multiple AF area selections, such as 1-point, Zone AF, and whole-area AF. The system performs well in low light down to EV -5, allowing confident focus even in challenging scenes. Depending on your shooting needs, you can lock focus or manually expand AF points.

Question 4

Can the Canon EOS R50 V be powered while recording?

Accepted Answer

The camera supports USB-C power delivery, which can run from a compatible power source while filming or streaming. This connection is ideal for longer shoots or live broadcasts where battery swaps aren’t practical. You can also charge the battery internally when the camera is powered off. It adds flexibility for creators working in studio setups or during extended sessions.

Question 5

Does the Canon EOS R50 V support slow motion with audio?

Accepted Answer

The EOS R50 V can record Full HD at 120fps with audio, which is not always available on cameras at this level. Audio is captured during recording and can be played back in real-time before applying slow-motion effects. This feature allows users to preview timing and sync more accurately before editing. It’s useful for interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, or dynamic sequences that require audio clarity.

Question 6

Is there a built-in flash on the EOS R50 V?

Accepted Answer

No, the Canon EOS R50 V does not include a built-in flash. Instead, it features Canon’s 21-pin multi-function hot shoe for attaching external flashes and digital accessories. It supports E-TTL II metering and second-curtain sync with compatible Speedlite units. This setup allows more flexibility for users who require more controlled lighting in their content.

Question 7

What filters are compatible with the Canon RF-S 14-30mm f4-6.3 IS STM PZ lens?

Accepted Answer

The RF-S 14-30mm f4-6.3 IS STM PZ features a 58mm front filter thread, supporting standard screw-in filters such as ND (neutral density), circular polarisers, and diffusion filters. Find a selection of 58mm filters here.

Question 8

Is the Canon RF-S 14-30mm f4-6.3 IS STM PZ lens supplied with a lens hood?

Accepted Answer

Canon does not supply a lens hood with the RF-S 14-30mm f4-6.3 IS STM PZ as standard. However, it is compatible with the Canon EW-63C lens hood, which users can purchase separately to reduce lens flare and improve contrast in challenging lighting conditions.
